Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic RPG

Recap the Fifteenth

2 May 2012

Recap of the previous adventure.

Wars of Jedi, Battles of Family

After the party returned to the settlement, they were glad to hear that their efforts had cleared the power-draining field from the planet, and that Republic ships were in-route to re-establish the hyperpace beacon. Once that was done, the Breaker's Loss was ordered to rendevouz with the Republic fleet for an important battle.

The briefing was simple: Republic intelligence reported that both Revan and Malak were on an inspection tour of Sith forces. Using the Interceptor-class vessel the Rangers had acquired previously, the Republic could pull the dark lords out of hyperspace at a time and place of their choosing, capture or kill them both, and thus put an end to the Jedi Civil War.

Each member of the Rangers had their own squad of snub fighters to command. They were also joined by an old friend: Jedi Master Alora.

The plan initially went well. The Sith vessels were pulled out of hyperspace into the Republic ambush, and the Jedi teams boarded the vessels to capture the dark lords. Something went wrong on Malak's vessel, however; though the Jedi initially reported success, they were overwhelmed by the Sith, and Malak escaped. In a desperate action, Malak opened fire on Revan's ship, crippling it and putting everyone on board in danger. Malak's forces destroyed the Interceptor, which allowed the Sith to escape into hyperspace. Revan was reported as dead. Overall, the Republic declared the battle a decisive win.

After the battle, the Rangers met up on one of the Republic capital ship and had a drink with Alora while the Loss was being repaired. Alora had distressing news: the light of the Jedi was being extinguished. The Jedi Civil War was taking its toll. Where once there had been a hundred thousand, now there were less than five hundred trained Jedi in all the galaxy. Such horrible attrition was mostly due to the war and defections to the Sith, but it was still a distressing trend that was causing a lot of panic behind closed doors. Jedi Councils on multiple worlds were reminded of the prophecy that there would be only two Jedi left to restart the order, and had begun efforts to maintain their teachings and traditions.

As this conversation was wrapping up, a Republic engineer tasked with repairing the damage done to the Loss during the battle asked for additional signed confirmation. As she was Cathar, Shagaar tried to strike up a conversation. But she acted skittish, and aroused suspicion when she made a break for the hangar. It was soon obvious that she and a partner were conspiring to steal the navigational computer for the Loss in order to locate the gem of Marka Ragnos.

With that singular task in mind, the two Cathar women put up a brief fight before Ish managed to detonate a few grenades inside the excavated console. Their objective destroyed, they attempted to escape in a nearby ship, but the warm-up checks provided enough time for Shagaar and Kistra to sabotage the ship's thrusters with their lightsabers. In desparation, the women attempted to lift off anyway, only for the Jedi Knight and her Padawan to reach out with the Force and snare the ship with the hangar bay doors.

During interrogation, the women revealed that they were Shagaar's long-lost sisters. His adopted family had attempted to train him in the ways of the Sergui Dervishes, but they had doubts. As a test, his caretaker made it appear as if a great battle had occurred while Shagaar was away, and then used the Force to suppress his vitals, appearing deceased. When Shagaar ran away rather than attempt to use what he was taught to wreck vengeance, he failed the test. His sisters, on the other hand, had continued their training.

Not that it did them much good. Shagaar left them to the Republic, which would no doubt send them off to a prison planet to serve their debt to society.
