Recap of the previous adventure.
It's Never Just a Box
Just as our heroes returned to the Alora Bell, they saw a Kel Dor hanging around the ship. He introduced himself as Balen, the appointed bodyguard of the Lady Alexis Starfall. Her husband, the Lord Starfall, was concerned that his Lady had not been seen for several weeks, and dispatched Balen to ensure her safety.
Alexis waved him off; she had gone on plenty of adventures and had come back whole, happy, and exuberant each time. Though Balen insisted that they return to Corellia, Alexis was able to convince him that her husband would be just as satisfied with a holo-message, and that if Balen was so concerned about her safety, he could accompany her as she escorted her new acquaintences.
With a few hours to kill before their contact arrived with his shipment, Shagaar attempted to do a little extra shopping to help accommodate the newest passenger. However, the charges from his previous spree had been noticed on the four-thousand year-old account, and the bank had shut down all activity on the credit chip.
Frustrated, Shagaar attempted to contact the bank - only to learn that it was currently in the middle of a hostage situation. Six or so thugs had twenty hostages inside the bank, in a blatant attempt at robbery. The official word was that a Sith Inquisitor was on her way to "deal" with the problem - likely in a way that would leave no survivors.
That was an untenable situation, and the bank was only a ten-minute ride away. The group flagged down a taxi and managed to beat the Sith Inquisitor to the scene. Fortunately, Balen knew one of the policemen that were establishing a perimeter, and managed to talk his way into participating in the negotations for the hostages. After all, it wasn't as if it could get any worse.
Shagaar volunteered himself and Balen to be traded for two of the hostages so that he could talk to the thugs face-to-face. Keeping his comm open to the rest of the team, he otherwise disarmed and headed into firing range.
The negotiations were short. The thugs were single-minded in their purpose, and mainly wanted a means to escape. They knew the Sith Inquisitor was on her way, but for some reason didn't care. They hadn't hurt any of the hostages, but threatened to if anything went wrong - as if the Inquisitor wouldn't have killed everyone in the building anyway.
Shagaar tried reasoning with the leader, but to no avail. He tried using a mind trick on him to get him to release the hostages, and managed some measure of success - except the leader thought it was time for the main exit strategy, and called for one of his co-horts to arm the bomb. In the two seconds it took Shagaar and Balen to register that yes, he had just said the word "bomb," it was too late.
Issh, Alexis, and Zeka heard everything over the comm, and took this as their cue to barge into the building. After a short firefight, the thugs were subdued, but Balen had revealed himself as a Jedi, complete with training in the use of a lightsaber. The thrill of fighting next to Shagaar, who unabashedly used the Force, had gotten to him. Years of hiding his gifts in fear of the Sith, and he had unmasked himself in front of the thugs, the hostages, and the security cameras.
Alexis was more amused than insulted that Balen had never told her that he was a Jedi-in-hiding. Here he had served her family for years, with never a hint of Force ability, but Shagaar had managed to bring out his hidden side in a single outing. It was a little bit hilarious.
The hostage situation resolved and the thugs on their way to jail, Shagaar stopped off to interrogate the bank manager on the status of his account. He was unable to get a lot of information, as the bank manager was still in a state of shock over his latest near-death experience. Perhaps the main branch on Coruscant would be able to help?
Coruscant was also the seat of the Sith Empire; walking directly into the lion's den didn't seem like the best idea in the world. What they needed was an illegal (and probably expensive) hack of the credit chip so they could still access the funds ...
While they were pondering possibilities, Fen approached them with the shipment they were to deliver to Naboo. Just as Fen handed over the ten-thousand credit downpayment and signed the box over, the police announced themselves!
Shagaar wasted no time disavowing himself and his companions from anything the box contained. He was a simple trader looking for a simple delivery. As far as he knew, the box contained droid components and equipment for transport to Naboo. It took a little convincing (and a strong mind trick on the police captain), but eventually the police allowed that capturing Fen and his illicit cargo of lightsaber crystals was more than enough evidence.
Shagaar had been without a lightsaber ever since the "rescue" by the pirate Roberts. And here was a whole crate of necessary components, the rarest of all components, taken away as evidence, likely to be destroyed. He watched it go, silently - and, when he was sure he was alone inside his new ship, he hit his head against the durasteel hull.
The knock to the head did help ring a bell, though. He verified with Balen and Alexis that one thing that hadn't changed over the past four thousand years was Nar Shaddaa. It was still the wretched hive of back-alley deals and illegal goods that everyone knew and feared. Best yet, it was still technically Hutt Space, though the Sith Empire kept a small presence. Where else to go to solve their credit chip and crystal problem in one place?
